I'm going to change the valve cover gasket today and as usual, even with 30-years of experience tinkering with motors, I watched a young girl do it on youtube (stop it) in preparation. The engine is an N42 and I believe this was fitted in to some US cars, although my own car has this engine, it's in a Compact model.

By removing the pollen filter and tray you can access it. Its hold in place by three torx 25 bolts, hardest part of the job is fitting them back once you have replaced the ccv. I found it easiest to first fit the ccv with only the oil line to the carter attached to it. Then fit the other two hoses, to make snapping of the hoses easier smear
Jul 21, 2011 · E46 (N42 engine) crankshaft sensor. Does anyone know if a crankshaft sensor fault shuts down the relay to the fuel pump. We have an intermittant fault whereby the car cuts out and then wont start during cranking. After about 30 mins the car restarts. When the fault is active the car cranks but doesn't start, so suspect the crankshaft sensor.
